2395. HappyEar Flamingo Bluetooth headset
This little headset has apparently won tons of design awards and stuff like that. Anyways, it comes in 8 colors ranging from pastel to somewhat metallic.
They last for an advertised 8 hours of talk time and 180 hours of standby time which is pretty amazing. They look nothing like a Bluetooth headset either.
The only thing I don’t like is the company’s site where you cant find a single picture from any other angle except in the flash ad on the front page where you can’t really see anything. But, they do have a picture of a model wearing one, and it doesn’t look too uncomfortable, which is good since that’s what some of their awards were for. If you want one, it will cost you $80, you can get it here.

2394. Asus Nova P22 small 2-liter PC
Its not quite as small as a Mac Mini, and the pricing on a Mac Mini might be a bit more convenient too. The NOVA P22 is a 2-liter PC weighing in at 1.78 kilos.
It has a Core 2 Duo E6320, a gig of RAM, a 160GB HDD, and a DVD burner. It also appears to come with a media center remote signifying a possible TV tuner, and since it comes with Windows Vista, its probably Vista Home Premium or Ultimate to make use of the Media Center app.
The PC also has Bluetooth and Dolby Digital Live audio technology, which means it should be a great fit for your home theater set up. On a side note, at the same time as this announcement, they announced a Pink Asus Eee PC for sale in Taiwan. The Nova will cost you a hard-to-swallow $1020 USD if/when it lands stateside.

1863. How the iPod Touch Works
starexplorer2001 writes "The iPod Touch isn't in stores yet, but HowStuffWorks has a nice summary of how the 'touch' part of the iPod Touch works. Very similar to how the iPhone works, without those pesky rebates! From the article: 'The iPod touch also has a few other features that iPod enthusiasts had hoped to see on standard iPod models. Some users hoped for a wirelessly enabled iPod so they could synch their music or share files with friends over a Bluetooth or WiFi connection. The iPod touch is the first iPod to have wireless capability, although it doesn't use it to synch with a computer or friends' iPods. Instead, you can use it to browse the Web, watch YouTube videos or download music from a WiFi-specific iTunes Music Store. With its widescreen display and WiFi capability, the iPod touch might sound like a big step up from older iPod models. But the iPod touch isn't for everyone.'"Read more of this story at Slashdot.
1907. Hug Shirt from CuteCircuit allows you to send hugs via Bluetooth
Bluetooth accessories for mobiles tend to revolve around Nathan Barley-esque headsets or dinky little speakers, so it's refreshing to see a company like CuteCircuit thinking outside the box.
They've designed a product called Hug Shirt which pretty much does what it says on the label, with the Bluetooth sensors and actuators attached to the shirt allowing you to send a hug to a friend who's also wearing the shirt. This is all well and good, until of course you inevitably meet up that evening, as after sending hugs...

Right on schedule, Sprint has launched its new Muziq flip from LG.
No surprises here: $100 (after instant savings, mail-in rebates and 2

A2DP Bluetooth stereo audio, 1.3 megapixel cam, and a weak-azz 64MB MicroSD
card (in the box) with room to grow up to 4GB at your own expense. It's
also one of a few handsets to feature an FM Transmitter for untethered

Music Store, Radio, and TV enabled as you'd expect a Sprint media phone
to be. Come on, at least you could pretend to be a little excited. Via
2352. Ricavision kicks out VAVE100 universal MCE / SideShow remote
Filed under: HDTV, Home Entertainment
Following up on the RICA 100 that Ricavision unveiled in May is the VAVE100, which doesn't deviate too far from its past siblings in the design department, but does offer up a 2.4-inch QVGA LCD, a shiny green MCE button and SideShow functionality. As we'd expect, this thing is a Class 1 (~50 meters promised) Bluetooth device with A2DP support, and it comes with its own docking station, a BT transceiver and a power charger. The remote enables users to control over 20 different components from up to 50-feet away via IR, and the buttons are backlit to keep you from fumbling around in the dark while trying to switch tracks. Unfortunately, you won't be using one of these to control your new gear (you are asking for new gear this year, right?) until next February, but you will save $25 by pre-ordering now for $274.

2442. Eee PC USB Flash and Bluetooth Hack
Right now, 8GB is the most storage you can expect to find inside an Asus Eee PC, and in order to get one larger than 4GB, you have to have it imported. Good luck with that, since its hard enough getting a 4GB one these days.
Besides storage, another great feature the Eee is lacking is Bluetooth. Well, a crafty user of the EeeUser forums decided to hack together a pair of internal USB ports onto the miniPCIe port and install a 16GB Corsair Flash Voyager and a USB Bluetooth adapter all comfortably nested away inside the case of the Eee.
The best part about this hack is, it uses USB, so, you can change what’s connected, or even upgrade with considerable ease. Now it does appear Johnx had to remove the outer shells of both USB devices, but that’s a small price to pay for an Eee that now has Bluetooth and a usable 20 gigabytes of storage instead of the 4 it came with.
Personally, Bluetooth isn’t that important of a feature for me, so I’d probably throw 2 flash drives in there. In case you are wondering, there is a complete parts list, some instructions, and links to the threads this guy used for info for his mod.

2534. Belkin and Kodak trot out cameraphone-friendly Bluetooth adapter
Filed under: Cellphones, Wireless
While there's certainly no shortage of ways to get your photos off your cameraphone and onto your PC, Belkin and Kodak seem to think they've got a better way of doing things, with the pair now rolling out a new Bluetooth adapter / software combo that promises to make things even easier. The key to that, it seems, is Kodak's Picture Upload Technology software, which will apparently automatically pull images off your phone whenever you walk within range of the adapter. Unfortunately, it seems that only XP or Vista users will be able to take advantage of the software, but if that's not a deal-breaker for you, you should be able to get your hands on the bundle now for $50.

2628. Samsung's F250 slider gets introduced
Filed under: Cellphones
If you've been dreaming of a sleek, stylish new slider from Samsung, look no further than the company's Russian site. Sure enough, the aforementioned location is where the F250 is being debuted (its stop in the FCC's database notwithstanding), and we're seeing that the 94- x 46- x 17.5-millimeter device is designed with music lovers in mind. Beyond the front-mounted track controls, this thing also boasts an FM tuner, a 1.3-megapixel camera, microSD expansion slot, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and a 2-inch 160 x 128 resolution LCD. As for connectivity, you'll find support for GSM 900 / 1,800 / 1,900 and EDGE, and while we're not sure how long it'll take for the mobile to make its way out to various corners of the world, it's set to run between RUB 6,500 ($266) and RUB 7,000 ($287) when it does.

Nextlink certainly isn't the first company to boast about having the "world's smallest Bluetooth headset," but judging by some quick math, its Invisio G5 may actually be the most diminutive -- for the moment, at least. Measuring in at just 3.3- x 1.6-centimeters and weighing less than six grams, this wee earpiece has an abnormally high risk of vanishing, but at least it will last through some 20-hours of yapping if you do manage to keep track of it. The unit also comes with a protective charging case, and the Soft Spring technology purportedly enables it to "adapt perfectly to the contours of the ear." There's no definitive word on pricing nor availability, but a brief search revealed that this thing can be had for around a C-note at a variety of online stores.

2744. Hackers have broken into the two most important science labs in the US
The first is Oak Ridge National Laboratory, which I assume is somewhere near Oak Ridge Nuclear facility in Tennessee. The second was the Los Alamos National Laboratory, the famous site of the A-Bomb testing and development.
What did they steal from the Oak Ridge lab? A complete visitors database from 1990 to 2004 including SSN numbers and birth dates, with 3000 of the nations best researchers visiting the lab each year, lets just say they pretty much have a Who’s Who of the science community now.
Nothing has been said about what was taken from the Los Alamos lab, but there was an attack and it seems likely it was successful at least to some extent, word is there were probably also attacks on other labs in the US. Hopefully nothing more important than the guest list was taken, but due to greed, or leverage, the guest list with SSN numbers might be sufficient to get what they really want, it’s quite sad to think that simply signing in to help the US with some research might have some effect on your life days, or even years later.

2745. Super Talent 256GB SSD uses SATA port to connect
256GB is huge in terms of SSD storage, and will probably cost you a small fortune, as such the price obviously isn’t listed, go figure. Super Talent has actually released two different 256GB SSD drives.
The FSD56GC35M is the one we are talking about today, and it is an amazing drive. It comes in a 3.5-inch form factor, connects via SATA and is completely interchangeable with any other SATA drive. Furthermore, it is an industrial drive, with operating temps of -40 to 85 degrees Celsius.
Lets not forget the inherent bonuses of all SSD drives, namely lower power consumption and the ability to handle bumps and vibration better due to a lack of moving parts and generally faster performance. Like I said, no word on price, and its likely only available if you can afford the price that’s so high they seem unwilling to give it out freely.

2788. XROAD offers up V4150 navigator
It wasn't too long ago that XROAD's V4050 caught our eye while browsing through the FCC's database, but now it's the V4150s time to shine. So yeah, there's nothing too extraordinary offered up on this one, but a quick search found it online for as low as $230, so bargain hunters may certain want to take notice.

3041. The Binary Code Tie shows your hatred for ties
I have never met a person that got excited over wearing a tie. No one actually enjoys wearing one, but occasionally it becomes absolutely necessary. This binary code tie is just the way to rebel while still following the rules.
The tie decoded simply says ‘Ties Suck’ a statement that most people would indeed agree with. Even women have come to recognize ties are the male version of pointy toed high heals. Besides, we geeks cannot conform to the normal standards, we have to stand out somehow.
Likely no one will have any idea what the tie says, but at least you can feel exhilarated by secretly showing your distaste. To snag one of your own it will cost you $24.99.

The symbol is abstract and cool enough to blend in with even a non-geek environment. A lot of people still don’t recognize the symbol widely enough that they’ll likely just think it’s a quirky little bauble.
Sadly this particular necklace has already been sold, however, after reading through the info on the seller I noticed she states that if requested she may be able to recreate a certain piece of jewelry. This original one was sold for $12.

The sleeves are specifically for the the MacBook fitting the 13.3”, the 15.4” and the 17”. The great thing is they not only feature a cute pink version but green and black as well. It features a layer of foam padding, a faux-suede interior and a slip pocket for any documents and papers you might need.
It also has an ergonomic retractable handle. The prices vary slightly depending on the size you want. The 13.3” and the 15.4” are both priced at $39.95. The 17” is being sold for slightly more at $44.95.

3054. EeeXubuntu its Xubuntu for your Eee PC
Well, if you were lucky enough to snag an Eee, or if you suspect you are getting one as some physical representation of another’s love for you, and you aren’t too happy with the Xandros Linux distro that comes with it, there is a solution. Some savvy Linux people were kind enough to customize the Xubuntu LiveCD so it will work with your Asus Eee PC.
Now, the idea with a LiveCD is that you can pop it in and give the OS a whirl without actually installing it, you know, kind of a try it before you buy it type of deal. Then if you like it, you click the Install icon on the desktop and it will install it for you.
I like Ubuntu because it’s so easy to use, Xubuntu is the same thing just with a much lighter window manager and more simplified desktop environment that makes it good for PC’s with low graphics and processing power, such as the Eee PC. Ewdi, our resident former Red Hat developer, thinks that Ubuntu is just this side of the devil because you don’t learn anything from using it, but what does he know right? Anyways, you can get the liveCD from eeeuser.com’s new eeeXubuntu wiki.

3092. The Etymotic etyBlu: a less ridiculous looking successor to the ety8?
If you want a pair of true, in-ear buds without the muss and fuss of wires, your options are limited and you need to be prepared to make some sacrifices. One such sacrifice that needs to be heavily weighed into the equation, for example, is your desire to appear as though there is a pair of black Duplo blocks hanging out of your ears. That's exactly the curse of Etymotic's ety8, a decent set of stereo Bluetooth 'phones (we've tried them, they're comfortable and sound great) that were irreparably damaged by the ugly stick somewhere during the course of their development. The high-end headphone outfit has another Bluetooth product in the works, though -- the ER-89 "etyBlu" just hit the FCC's wires, giving us hope that they heard our complaints loud and clear and have worked to make their kit just a little less embarrassing to wear in public. We couldn't find conclusive evidence in the documentation that we're looking at a stereo headset here; theoretically, it could just be a mono product for calls, but we're encouraged by a brief mention of listening to music (who wants to blast tunes into one ear?) and the fact that the ety8's model number is ER-88. Can anyone make out what's going on in this FCC label diagram here? Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
