2394. Asus Nova P22 small 2-liter PC
Its not quite as small as a Mac Mini, and the pricing on a Mac Mini might be a bit more convenient too. The NOVA P22 is a 2-liter PC weighing in at 1.78 kilos.
It has a Core 2 Duo E6320, a gig of RAM, a 160GB HDD, and a DVD burner. It also appears to come with a media center remote signifying a possible TV tuner, and since it comes with Windows Vista, its probably Vista Home Premium or Ultimate to make use of the Media Center app.
The PC also has Bluetooth and Dolby Digital Live audio technology, which means it should be a great fit for your home theater set up. On a side note, at the same time as this announcement, they announced a Pink Asus Eee PC for sale in Taiwan. The Nova will cost you a hard-to-swallow $1020 USD if/when it lands stateside.

Do lots of people really want to set up their own home surveillance systems? Normal people, I mean, who don't live in expensive houses that could be robbed at any minute by a passing burglar.
The makers of the RC Surveillance Cam hope there's a market. Costing £119.95, it consists of a camera, and a handset which you use both to control the cam's pan'n'tilt, but also to watch the live streaming footage on a 2.5-inch screen, and listen through the speakers.

1750. The Conference Call Is Dead. Here's a Better Way
Conference calls haven't changed much in the past couple of decades. They're still an unproductive and annoying waste of time. Fortunately A two-year-old startup called TalkShoe rolled out a new VoIP service yesterday called ShoePhone. Unlike other VoIP services, ShoePhone offers a long list of features that make it an ideal replacement for the old-and-busted corporate conference call. ShoePhone can handle up to 250 callers at once, plus thousands of additional people who can listen live without talking. The whole call is then posted online for all to refer to later. That a huge pile of other incredible features. ShoePhone displays the name of whoever is talking, and features a mute button, text-chat censoring and a nice feature call "request-to-talk queuing" a huge pile of other cool features. It's time to DUMP THE OLD CONFERENCE CALL into the ash heap of obsolete corporate communication media.

1849. Google Quietly Closes AdSense API to Small Sites
NewsCloud writes "Google has raised the required minimum traffic limit for publishers who wish to use its AdSense API to 100,000 page views per day. The AdSense API was introduced in March as a way for sites with user generated content to share advertising revenue with their members. Says Google, "This policy change will probably result in fewer developers going live and give us a chance to enhance our support resources and processes to more easily support a greater number of developers in the future...we hope to be able to lower it in the future as we become more efficient at supporting our developers!" Meanwhile, some publishers report waiting a month for their API usage to be approved. I take Google at its word for now but worry that small developers could be increasingly squeezed out of the mashup space if this were to become a trend."Read more of this story at Slashdot.

2378. Xbox 360 Fall Dashboard Update due next week, Microsoft tells all
Filed under: Gaming
We've been hearing quite a bit about next week's Fall Dashboard Update for the 360, but Microsoft's finally ready to spill all of the beans. Obviously, the biggest update is the "Xbox Originals" downloadable Xbox games, but other improvements include enhanced online profiles, increased social networking, beefed up parental controls, improved menus, and our personal favorite: DivX support. As stated before, Xbox Original games, like Halo 1 and Fable, will be going for 1200 MS points (about $15), which is roughly comparable with your local game store's bargain bin. Also on the fiscal side of things, certain titles on Xbox Live Arcade are getting permanent price drops, akin to "Platinum Hits" of retail titles. As for DivX, Microsoft was a little vague when speaking with Joystiq about it, but it sounds like XviD is in play as well, which is just double fun. It's all hitting as a free download on December 4th, starting at 2AM PST.

2379. i-Station lets loose U43 do-it-all PMP
Filed under: Handhelds, Portable Audio, Portable Video
At this point, we're fairly certain i-Station will only use a number other than "43" in its product titles once it has exhausted the entire US alphabet, but since we're not quite to that point, we're forced to live with U43 this go 'round. As expected, this Korean PMP is packed to the brim with features, including a 4.3-inch WQVGA (480 x 272) display, WinCE 5.0, a T-DMB receiver, GPS, e-dictionary, 30GB / 60GB hard drive and support for a smorgasbord of file formats. Notably, some features will depend on which flavor you pick up -- Standard, DMB or NAVI -- but the whole lot plays nice with MPEG1/2/3/4, AC3, DivX, XviD, WMV, WMA, OGG, WAV, AAC, FLAC, APE, JPEG, BMP and PNG. 'Course, all this functionality won't run ya cheap, as word on the street pegs this bad boy at ₩448,000 (or around $481).

2441. Microsoft finally launching Xbox 360 Video Marketplace across the pond
We’ve been enjoying the privilege of downloading movies and TV shows in both HD and SD formats for over a year now, but alas, our friends in the UK are finally getting a taste. They are starting out with just movies, with the newest one apparently being 300.
The SD ones will cost you 250 points to rent, while the HD ones will cost you 380 points to rent. The rentals last for 2 weeks, or 24 hours once you actually start the film. I don’t have a monetary equivalency for the 250 points, but 380 of them are roughly £3.20.
Once again, if you are going to make heavy use of this service, especially if you prefer HD films, I’d recommend upgrading that hard drive. However, since they expire 24 hours after you start watching them, you should be alright with the 20GB HDD as long as you don’t download too many films at once.

2443. Xbox 360 Fall 2007 Dashboard Update Goes Live
So it went live today, I just downloaded it myself, the biggest feature, the ability to download Xbox Originals, or full games from the original Xbox. If you plan on making a habit out of it, I’d recommend upgrading to the 120GB Xbox HDD first, Fable was one of the first 7 titles available, and it was 3.3GB I believe, so it’ll eat up the 20 gig hard drive quick.
On top of that there is the XBLA Hits program which is a lot like the Greatest Hits game program, where the best games, after a certain period of time, get labeled Hits or Greatest Hits and get a drop in price, same thing, but for XBLA. The rumored news feeds are also present and they show things like new games and updates to the Xbox Marketplace.
The extended bio for your Xbox Live profile is also there as well as the ability to see the friends list of your friends, kind of like social networking. The family timer settings are there as well as the full screen movie previews and the special buttons for the dashboard to take you directly to XBLA or the Video Marketplace. So, all is good, go get the update, and enjoy, oh, and in case you were wondering, Halo is in the list of downloadable games too, just the original one for now though.

2950. Xbox Live Video Marketplace launches in five new countries
Filed under: Gaming
Right on cue, the Xbox Live Video Marketplace has indeed launched in Europe today, and our neighbors to the north are being treated, too. Effectively immediately, Xbox Live users in Canada, France, Germany, Ireland and the United Kingdom can dip into features made available to Americans last year. More specifically, gamers will be able to rent downloadable flicks in HD and SD forms, and while the former will run folks "as little as 250 Microsoft Points (£2; $4.06)," high-definition versions will cost upwards of 380 Points (£3.20; $6.49). Also of note is the inclusion of additional Warner Bros. films such as Batman Forever, Batman Returns and Analyze That -- all of which will be available by the year's end. Lastly, Microsoft will be offering up a "mystery HD [Warner Bros.] title" to UK users for just £0.99 ($2.00) on December 28th, but we can't say we're brimming with excitement over it.

2970. Thieves hijack truck carrying Rock Band, steal 1,000 boxes
Filed under: Gaming
While we understand that people will do anything to become rock stars, we don't really think stealing 1,000 copies of Rock Band is the way to do it -- fame atop the Xbox Live and PSN leaderboards is so fleeting to begin with. Regardless, it looks like a pair of thieves was desperate enough to hijack a truck full of Harmonix and EA's hot new party game in LA last night, hold the driver at gunpoint, unload the gear and make off with the goods. Police think it was an inside job, since the truck was unmarked and the driver picked up his cargo late Saturday night -- meaning the thieves must have known the truck was worth jacking, and already have had a place to unload the less-than-compact boxes. No leads yet, but looks like gamers in LA wanting to rock out this holiday season are going to have to start shopping out the back of shady vans, eh?

2974. Microsoft unveils Xbox 360 HD DVD Emulator, hopes to speed up development
Filed under: HDTV, Home Entertainment
We can't say we saw this one coming down the pike, but Microsoft has unveiled a new piece of software designed to "streamline development / testing for HD DVD content" as well as "accelerate the advancement" of next-generation interactivity (HDi, in particular). Simply put, the Xbox 360 HD DVD Emulator allows studios the flexibility to "model the behavior of HD DVD disc content, including encoded video and HDi interactivity, in a virtual environment." When put to use, companies can purportedly cut down on coasters and wasted time, but in order to do so, they'll need an Xbox 360 + HD DVD peripheral, a connection to Xbox Live and $2,999. Thirsty for more? There's plenty where that came from.

3056. iSicles Brazilian popsicles or ice cream
Yeah, this time the name does mean just what you think; it’s a frozen treat with an iPod inside. No really, they are peppering in 10k iPod Shuffles and stuffing them into their frozen treats.
No wonder why Cracker Jack isn’t selling, how do you compete with a third-world country’s ice cream shop being able to afford to give out 10,000 iPod Shuffles? Anyways, the company worked with Apple to find a way to hide the Shuffles in the popsicles without ruining the iPods, and they did it, and now you have a chance to get one if you live in Brazil and really like ice cream. And, as close as that place is to the equator, I’d assume everyone likes ice cream there.
No word on how much the popsicles cost, but I just think its cool as hell that they managed to stuff them in with a Popsicle. And of course, they are only available in Brazil, so if you have some vacation time and really wanted an iPod Shuffle, Brazil might not be a bad option.

Or maybe every other sod in the near vicinity already has a WiFi router clogging up the airwaves. Whatever. There's a way around it that works really well called HomePlug AV, which uses your mains sockets to carry your network. The trouble so far has been that you always have to buy a costly set of HomePlug AV adapters - one for each of the devices you want to plug in and one to plug into your router / hub.
